100 Varsity Wins

The Lake George-Warrensburg wrestling team had a successful season, taking fourth place at the Section II championships and second at the Class D tournament. Among the many accolades of the Lake George-Warrensburg wrestling team this season, are wrestlers Colton Bell and Cameron Carpenter each achieving 100 varsity match wins–and they’re not done yet!

“I am so proud of Cameron and Colton’s performances on and off the mat. Since joining the team, they have grown as athletes and leaders. They always show up to practice ready to work. They have earned each and every win they have under their belts,” shared Warrensburg-Lake George Varsity Wrestling Coach Mark Trapasso.

Carpenter has been wrestling since kindergarten and was motivated to join the team after his two older siblings did. Bell’s rugby coach identified him as someone with potential on the mat, which led to him competing in wrestling for the past six years. Both boys credited their coaches, families, and teammates for supporting them throughout their wrestling careers.

This major milestone for high school wrestlers is especially significant considering the matches that were postponed due to COVID. Bell shared he was only able to compete in four matches during the COVID shutdown. Yet with a shorter time frame and the pressure on, these team members still persevered.

When asked what advice they have for younger wrestlers looking to hit 100 wins, both boys emphasized the importance of conditioning both during and after the season. Whether it is running in the halls or repetitive strength exercises, the effort you put in at practice is reflected when you are on the mat, they said. They also credit their success to showing up to every practice and sticking to their coaches’ plans.

Carpenter and fellow Warrensburg senior Zachary Olden will be competing in the NYSPHSAA State Wrestling Championships beginning on Feb. 23, at 9:30 a.m. at the MVP Arena in Albany. Tickets are available online through Ticketmaster or at the box office at the arena.
