This week, New York State announced the first round of funding for the Empire State Teacher Residency Program. The Warrensburg Central School District was named as a recipient during this first round, and we will be able to support two teacher residents. Just a few months ago, we held a ceremony celebrating our staffers who have been with our district for 10 to 30 years. We are delighted to be able to share how to have a long, fulfilling career as a teacher with the next generation. You can read more about this program here: https://www.governor.ny.gov/news/governor-hochul-celebrates-back-school-week-new-legislation-and-critical-investments-support

Our students are off to a great start of the 2023-2024 school year! The 7th graders, beginning their first year in the Jr./Sr. High School, took a trip to Camp Echo Lake on Friday to participate in team building activities and to meet their teachers in the new building. Seniors took photos to commemorate their last first day of high school. On Friday, they started the day with the Annual Senior Breakfast held in the cafeteria. At the Elementary School, returning students settled into their new classrooms and new routines. Our Kindergartens and their guardians joined us for a visitation of the school before the first day to familiarize themselves with the Elementary building. Thank you all for a great first week!

Check out our September breakfast and lunch menus at wcsd.org/page/food-services Beginning this year, Warrensburg will be supported by the Capital Region BOCES Shared Food Services Team. Our participation in this service provides many benefits to our students and school community, including: increased access to a wide variety of wholesome food choices, optimized quality and customer service in our food service programs and shared staff with expertise in school nutrition, including a registered dietitian and program specialists. During the 2023-24 school year, our school district will be participating in the Community Eligibility Provision program, which provides no-cost meals to all students. CEP is a federal provision that allows qualifying schools to provide free breakfast and lunch to all students. Check out the “Free Meals for All” section on our Food Services page, below the menu information.

Fall sports are starting in the next few days. This is a friendly reminder that all students must be registered through Family I D to be eligible to practice. This is replacing the old blue card system. If you are not registered and approved, you cannot start practice. JV and Varsity Football begins on Saturday, August 19th. All other JV and Varsity sports begin on Monday, August 21st. Please check the athletics page on the school website for how to register for Family I D. and additional information. Also, please note that students that are coming to the High School for practice from 8/19-8/22 will need to access the school using the locker room hallway near the gym. Due to construction projects, you cannot enter through the main entrance or the entrance near the business office. Thank you.

We are excited to share that Kara Bacon, recent graduate of Warrensburg High School, was named Grand Collegiate Woman of the Year during the Capital District Sports Women of the Year event. Alongside her were 11 other female student-athletes from the area who excelled in academics, athletics, and community service. These 12 women will make up the 2023 Class of the Capital District Sports Women of the Year and join the women that came before them.
