On Thursday, October 18, eighth and ninth grade students, along with approximately 1,700 students from neighboring school districts attended Career Jam at the Adirondack Sports Complex in Queensbury, NY.

This second annual event was organized by the Saratoga Economic Development Corporation (SEDC), in partnership with the Washington-Saratoga-Warren-Hamilton-Essex (WSWHE) BOCES, and the Workforce Investment Board. The purpose of the event was for students to explore career opportunities and raise awareness of the direct skills needed in our region.

Over sixty employers across business, trade labor and public sectors participated to highlight job skills in action. Many had some type of interactive activity related to the business to engage and inspire the young students. Industries represented included agriculture, food and natural resources, architecture and construction, arts, A/V technology and communications, business management and administration, education and training, finance, government and public administration, health sciences, hospitality and tourism, human services, information technology, law enforcement and public safety, and more.

Warrensburg 7-12 school counselor Jessica Mossing said, “It’s never too early for students to begin exploring career paths, and this event provided a great cross-section and awareness of the diverse career opportunities in our own backyard and beyond."
