Teen Excellence Honoree Christian Bruce:
Congratulations to Christian Bruce, who was awarded the Teen Excellence Award at the Queensbury Hotel on Tuesday, March 9th, 2010. The awards were given by the Post Star. Christian Bruce is a senior at Warrensburg Central School, and was nominated by the school Principal, Doug Duell. He is the son of Matt and Io Bruce. “Christian has developed into quite a leader over the course of his high school career,” Duell said. “His personality and active involvement in a number of activities have led to him becoming a leader in the Warrensburg school community.” Christian’s involvement speaks volumes, Duell said. He is actively involved in a number of community activities including volunteering at church, working at a local gym, volunteering to student teach at the grade 1-3 summer school and is involved in numerous school activities and clubs. Christian has a great personality as do many kids his age but it is what he does with his personality that sets him apart. His leadership is exemplary. He is the president of the Senior Honor Society and JSA (Junior Statesman of America), and leader for the yearbook and school newspaper. He leads by example and gets along well with any peer group. Christian is in the top five in his class, has been involved in just about every aspect of the school and is polite, compassionate and has a great presence. He will be a leader wherever he gets involved. Age: 17 School: Warrensburg Jr.-Sr. High School Parents/Guardians Names: Matthew and Io Bruce Siblings: Twin sister, Cassondra Bruce Grade Level: 12 Personal Inspiration: My personal inspiration is my twin sister, Cassondra. She is always at my side pushing me along. Without her, I would not be where I am today. Hobbies: I love photography! I have two manual cameras and two digital cameras. I enjoy using Photoshop with digital pictures; however, I really like using film. It is a lot of fun adjusting the settings on a manual camera and waiting to see what the finished product is when the film is developed. Biggest Accomplishment: The most challenging thing I have done in my life is attend summer school at Yale University in the summer of 2009. I took AP Government and Public Speaking while living at the campus for three weeks. I had classes Monday through Saturday for eight hours a day. The program was intense, but extremely rewarding. School Activities: Concert and Jazz Band, Junior Statesman of America (JSA) Debate Team President, Yearbook Business Staff, Yearbook Financial Manager, Yearbook Layout Staff, Yearbook Editor, School Improvement Team (SIT), Senior Honor Society President, and School Newspaper Editor Community Service: I try to serve my community whenever possible. I am not dedicated to one project; I volunteer my time wherever I can. Person you look up to and why: I have always looked up to my parents. They are the reason I have become the person I am today. Their main goal was to mold me into the best person I can be, and I am thankful for that. Name a teacher who has positively impacted your life inside and outside the classroom and how: I could never choose just one teacher. All of my educators have had a profound impact on my life, and I value all of lessons I have learned from them. Activities outside of school: My favorite activity is to travel. I love to go sightseeing and drive across the countryside. I don’t care where we are going, I will be right there in the car, ready to explore. Favorite pastime: My favorite show is NCIS, and I love to watch reruns whenever I find time. Favorite food: I have many favorite foods! Basically, anything my grandparents make is my favorite; however, my grandmother’s homemade soups are probably my number one. Favorite movie: My favorite movie is Dead Poets Society. Favorite book: My favorite book is To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee. Favorite music/artist: I don’t have a favorite artist or type of music. My iPod is filled with 5,000 varying songs, and I listen to all of them. Goals, dreams & aspirations: I have so many philanthropic endeavors, but I can’t seem to pinpoint the one thing I want to do in life. I just hope to have a happy and successful life. I believe that each day is a blessing, and we must cherish and make the most of our life.
