The District is pleased to announce that senior Charlie Weick was selected to participate in CASDA’s 33rd Annual Scholars’ Recognition Program. CASDA and its partners host this program to honor the outstanding scholastic achievements of graduating seniors from high schools across the Capital Region and beyond. The students are nominated by their schools on the basis of scholarship, leadership, and service to their school and community.

Charlie is an outstanding student both inside and outside of the classroom. He is the valedictorian of Warrensburg’s graduating class, is enrolled in WSWHE BOCES New Visions Engineering Program, a member of the National Honor Society, and a three-sport varsity athlete. He also played tenor saxophone with the concert band and jazz band. Charlie plans on attending Santa Clara University in the fall to study engineering.

The program required the applicants to write an essay about the teacher having significant influence on their education. Charlie selected history teacher, Mrs. Io Bruce. In his essay, Charlie wrote, “Mrs. Bruce is a very kind and supportive teacher whose interactive, discussion-based classes made AP American History interesting and fun every day. “

Charlie was honored at a Scholars’ Recognition Dinner, held on Thursday, May 16, at the Albany Marriott Hotel. In addition to their parents, each student got to invite the teacher they wrote about in their essay. Charlie’s guest was Mrs. Io Bruce. This program is a wonderful opportunity to celebrate scholarship and academic achievement by bringing together the best and the brightest teachers from our region.
