Lowe’s Charitable and Educational Foundation has awarded a $2,000 Lowe’s Toolbox for Education grant for a transformation project in the elementary school library media center.

The vision for the elementary library media center requires that the grant recipients acquire new furniture and shelving to assist in creating an inviting space for students. To achieve this, the Lowe’s grant will help the school to purchase new chairs, area rugs, and new flexible shelving units to highlight books in a variety of formats.

Elementary school librarian Mrs. Jennifer Casaboone explained, “We hope to create a climate conducive to learning in which students seek opportunities to visit the library/media center during both scheduled classes and during their free reading time. Our goal for this updated library space is for students to have access to resources that support their academic and personal learning needs, and to meet the diverse learning needs of our population.”

The plan to accomplish this goal is to create three different zones within the library where students can explore, read, and learn. With these additions, the library media center will become even more of a focal point in the school. Students will have access to a learning space where they can relax and read, or collaborate with classmates using laptops and other devices.

The grant was secured by Mrs. Jennifer Casabonne.
